Introduced by Bridge design & engineering magazine and the organisers of the Bridges conference and exhibition in partnership with the Bridge Owners Forum, the Annual Bridges Awards aim to recognise and honour individual projects and/or organisations for outstanding achievement.

The Bridges Awards celebrate the sheer ingenuity, project management and cooperative skills of the people behind the design, construction and maintenance of pedestrian, highway and rail bridges in the UK.  

Outstanding achievement is sought under FIVE categories: bridge design, bridge construction, bridge refurbishment/reconstruction/repurposing, international bridge participation and bridge(s) maintenance/inspection/management.

All entries are reviewed by an independent judging panel who will take into consideration factors including individual/team contribution to a project, environmental impact, quality of design and construction, innovative factors, and benefits to the community.  

The winners will be announced and presented on 8 March 2023 during the Bridges 2023 conference and exhibition. Presentations will be made during an informal drinks reception, which will take place within the Coventry Building Society (CBS) Arena, Coventry, UK immediately after the main conference has finished. All delegates, speakers and exhibitors will be invited to attend.

There are FIVE Award Sponsorship opportunities available.

1) The Bridges Design Award

The Bridges Design Award aims to identify an outstanding project that combines engineering skill, aesthetics, technical innovation and environmental considerations.

2) The Bridges Construction Award

The Bridges Construction Award is presented to an organisation or partnership that has demonstrated remarkable achievement during a construction project involving one or more crossings.

3) The Bridges Award for New Life

The Bridges Award for New Life recognises an outstanding project involving bridge refurbishment, reconstruction, repurposing or retrofitting for the benefit of the local community.

4) The Bridges International Award

NEW FOR 2023: The Bridges International Award will be open to UK-based teams, divisions or companies that have made an outstanding contribution to the design, construction, management (including inspection and assessment) or rehabilitation of a bridge or group of bridges outside the UK.

5) The Bridges Management Award

The Bridges Award for Management recognises innovative best practice by a bridge owner and/or service provider in the management, maintenance, monitoring or inspection of a crossing/crossings in the UK.
